Cairo Ramps Up Effort to Take Abandoned Cars Off the Streets

Of course we can't find a parking spot in Cairo, sometimes it feels like every other space is taken up by a car that's been left to rust there twenty years ago and hasn't been claimed since by anyone other than a stray cat using it as a luxury-sized litter box. Enough is enough and the governor of Cairo agrees, having called on the heads of the city's neighbourhoods to remove old, abandoned cars from the streets in coordination with the General Administration of Traffic in Greater Cairo.

The governor also stressed the need to deal with vehicles that illegally dump construction and demolition waste outside of their designated landfills.

The push to keep abandoned cars off of Cairo's streets is part of a larger effort to upgrade the city's hygiene, which includes the implementation of a new waste system by the Ministry of Environment.
