Cairo Bikes Announces Big Annual Discounts for Students

Cairo Bike, Egypt’s first bicycle sharing system, was installed across Downtown Cairo in July and is expected to provide an eco-friendly mode of transportation in Cairo through its first phase starting this August with rides costing EGP 1 per hour. And now, the initiative is also giving students a chance to commute, exercise and save even more money.

With yearly subscription rates normally starting at EGP 600 for Egyptian citizens, high school and university students can subscribe to that same package for EGP 200. And while hourly rates for citizens are EGP 1, students can book it for 70 piastres.

These discounts are being implemented to encourage students to commute through the bike sharing application, in line with a nationwide initiative to move citizens away from car-centric transportation methods, especially in light of Egypt hosting the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh.

Once the first phase begins, the bicycles will be made accessible through the Donkey Republic app.
