So far, the podcast has featured actress Arwa Gouda, and is set to feature footballer Ahmed Hassan Kouka and actress Tara Emad.
There’s a high demand for conversations surrounding mental health during these trying times, which is part of what motivated mental health awareness ambassador and founder of EMPWR magazine – the first regional mental health awareness magazine – Ally Salama to kick off his brand new podcast, ‘Asrar El Nafs.’ The podcast features celebrities discussing their own personal trials and tribulations and mental health challenges as a way to raise awareness and destimagatise mental health issues. So far, the podcast has featured Arwa Gouda, and is set to host Tara Emad, travel influencer Haifa Beseisso, actress May ElGhety and Olympiacos striker Ahmed Hassan Abdelmoneim aka Kouka.
“During these times, people are much more tolerant to conversations surrounding mental health, due to the various limitations set upon us during quarantine,” Salama tells CairoScene. “People should understand that mental health – just like physical health – is a continuum and exists on a spectrum, and we wanted to use the podcast to make an impact by harnessing the digital landscape.”
The podcast – which originally started as a concept for a world youth mental health conference, now postponed due to COVID-19 – features various topics such as self-image, performance anxiety, PTSD, parenting and much more. The next episode – set for release tomorrow, Thursday 28th May – will feature Kouka, who will discuss mental health in the athletic field and the importance of support systems.
Stay tuned for future guests on their Instagram, and new episodes of the podcast are released every Thursday at 8PM on Anghami. You can also catch their live Q&A sessions with the celebrities and get a sneak peek of what will be discussed in their upcoming episode on Instagram Live every Wednesday at 8PM.
