9 Amazing Things About Cairo

Yes, everyone complains about living in Cairo. You're bored and you think you're over it. You know everyone, have done everything and you want to safir Baris or Landan where you'll live an exciting life full of surprises and wealth. Well, no. Wake up: only boring people get bored and you've just taken for granted all the amazing things that make Cairo one of the most amazing cities in the world to live in. To pick everyone's spirits up a bit we've decided to give you a little reminder...

Year-round sunshine.

Do you know how depressing to go to work in the morning when it's dark and then leave when it's dark again like you would in many European cities? Sun all year round in Cairo! Hell, yeah! And that's hugely beneficial to your health as well: sunshine reduces risk of cancer, boosts immunity, lowers blood pressure... the list goes on. So everyone look outside your windows and say thank you, Sun.

Everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.

Yes, sometimes it can get frustrating to see the same faces, but at the same time it's sort of like having a group of one thousand mates every time you go out which is pretty damn cool.

Everyone delivers everything anywhere.

In Europe, if it's 2 AM and your hungry, with nothing in the fridge, you're pretty fucked in most countries, aren't you? Not in Egypt (excluding curfew of course). We don't realise how awesomely comfortable our lives are made by every food outlet delivering to your door. Not just food, but everything from medicine to electronics comes straight to you. God bless Egypt!

You're only 2 hours away from some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

There aren't many cities in the world that allow you to live the hustle and bustle of city life and the laid back beach bum life every single week. With Ras Sudr, Ain Sokhna and the North Coast just a quick drive away, holidays become a regular occurrence.

You can do anything.

Egypt is the land of opportunity! Many industries here are somewhat behind western standards, from business to the arts and beyond. As such, anyone with some common sense and a little education, talent and determination can become a famous actor, singer or artist. Anyone can take a business idea from abroad and become an entrepreneurial wizard in Cairo.

5,000 years of culture.

There might be a bit of traffic but we did have the first roads in the world as well so... 5,000 years of majestic culture surrounding us all on a daily basis is something to keep our heads up high. Not to mention that, geographically, you can be Arab, African and Mediterranean all at once!

You can bribe anyone to get out of trouble.

While other cities usually have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to you know, breaking the law, there's nothing a 50 LE bill or a piece of hash won't fix with your friendly neighbourhood police officer here.

Transport is cheap.

Taxis, subway and buses in Cairo are a much more cost effective way of getting around than in most cities in the world. Not to mention that awesome banter with Egyptian taxi drivers is enough to make anyone's day.

We find away to turn any activity into a hilarious Arabic verb.
