Egyptian Designer Mirna Emad Creates Alluring Lofts in Bali

This should paint a pleasant mental image, ‘Bali!’ No doubt you’re already picturing vivid greenery, wooden decor and a pool overlooking a tropical forest. Amongst the getaway destinations to be opened at the exotic Indonesian city are loft villas developed by Coz Bali in Uluwatu, which have been created by Egyptian designer Mirna Emad.

“We reflected the architectural concept into an Asian vernacular experience while keeping minimal forms that relate to the local aesthetic,” Emad tells #SceneHome of the design.

The ‘Uluwatu Loft Villas’ is the second phase of a resort made of six standalone vacation villas. Each villa features an open kitchen, a single bedroom mezzanine and a living room. All spaces share a full-height glass wall that allows maximum natural light in and maintains connection to nature.

“The furniture design played a big role in delivering the message of a vacation home that feels part of nature,” she says of the raw, textured wood, rough stone and custom-made furniture that cover the space.

Lingering about the landscape, tropical heat will force you to take a seat on a chaise-lounge placed on a rock-like deck, which acts as an island within the pool surrounded with tall greens.

“You can easily recognise the wide input of greens inside the home, big banana leaves, Manioc or Cassava and bamboo in the landscape,” Emad describes the local plants she studied to include as an integral element of the design to create a relaxing, meditative yet engaging Balinese experience.
