Alcavo’ Blends Japanese Wabi Sabi with Natural Egyptian Aesthetics

Homes with clear inspirations usually have soothing aesthetics, and the comfort gets compounded when the designer is driven by a well-understood medley of styles. Mirna A Emad, one of Egypt’s most effortless 3D visualisation designers, strikes again with an apartment render for Loak Designs that blends Japanese Wabi-Sabi with Egyptian desert-like visuals.

“While seeking a visual concept, this eclectic mix helped tell the story of the design,” Emad tells #SceneHome. “Going deeper, the material selection revolved around sandy, natural and – at times – rough textures.” Here she refers to the travertine stone that can be spotted as the guiding material in the house.

Most of the furnishing choices were made through a Wabi-Sabi lens, which focuses on natural aura and authentic accents, from the kitchen island to the smallest sculptures. “Shades of green make their way with olive branches and cactus.” The name Alcavo came from the cave-like aesthetics that became apparent once the design took shape.

“Mingling around the corners of the design there’s an enjoyable back and forth dialogue between the two styles,” Emad adds. A blend of naturality, both Japanese and Egyptian, resulted in a relatable home environment that is still full of nuanced surprises. Aside from that fireplace, that is - there’s nothing nuanced about that feature.
