Sherihan Auctions Dress For Beirut Explosion Victims

Egyptian household name Sherihan, mostly commonly known for her hit fawazeer show in the 80s, has donated one of her signature gowns to help Lebanon get back on its feet following the horrific explosion that shook Beirut’s port in August. Sherihan, known for rocking eccentric and avante garde garb on screen, donated a silk haute couture gown she designed herself and wore in her ‘Thousand and One Nights’ fawazeer show in 1987. The star signed the dress, which will be up for bidding at a starting price of £18,000 to £25,000.

The auction, titled ‘To Beirut with Love’, will be hosted by international arts auction house Sotheby’s, which is embarking on a charity mission with Creatives for Lebanon and Art for Beirut. Opening from December 7th to 15th, the event will gather the biggest fashion houses, artists, and jewellery designers from across the industry.

And Sherihan is not alone. Lebanese singer Majida El Roumi has donated a unique sky-blue embellished dress from her personal collection at a starting price of £8,000 to £10,000. Hollywood A-lister Emma Watson’s 2015 Oscars Red Carpet dress, designed by Elie Saab, will also be joining the roster. Pop megastar Madonna will offer a matador-inspired costume from Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran, and a guitar signed by Pete Townshend.

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell’s sequin outfit from the chart-topping ‘Wannabe’ music video will be featured at a starting bid of £4,000-£6,000. ‘If you wanna be’ charitable, this is probably the piece to bid for. Rock god Mick Jagger will also auction his jacket from his 2017 European Tour.

The handpicked selection will feature pieces from leading names in the international fashion industry, including titans like Giambattista Valli, Ralph & Russo, Azzedine Alaïa, Prada, with a chance to customize a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes.

The auction will be held in collaboration with IMPACT Lebanon and LIFE (Lebanese International Finance Executives), and the proceeds will be shared amongst five charities including Nusaned, Beit El Baraka and Baytna Baytak, Fanar, and House of Christmas.
