‘Shando Basics’ is Amna El Shandaweely’s Matching T-Shirt and Mask Line for Post-Quarantine Life

Tribalwear brand Amna El Shandaweely has readapted their signature African-inspired patterns for a new era in history. Post-quarantine fashion is a world we’re still exploring. Not only are huge design houses in Paris and Milan re-evaluating their game plans, but local, smaller brands find themselves having to navigate this new landscape without the help of experts or a board of directors.

“Since the arrival of Coronavirus we have had conversations with a lot of people and all they said that they think fashion should abide to the new rules of the world and how we need practicality and affordable pieces," Amna El Shandaweely told #CairoScene. "It’s important to have pieces that we can wear in our everyday moments.”

Her new line, titled Shando Basics, is a collection of matching t-shirts and face masks that incorporate her classic, colourful handmade patterns with the new realities of our time. “It’s mainly inspired by the basics me and my family want to wear," El Shandaweely said. "Basics, but still with the edge of handmade fabrics."

The handmade fabrics, which cover the masks and pockets of the t-shirts, have been made entirely by African refugees living in Cairo, and are all hand-waxed. The ‘Shando Basics’ collection is now available to order through the brand’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
