Ritmo's Tokyo Collection is a Cyberpunk Embodiment of Japanese Fashion

The 1970s marked a decade of generational opposition throughout East Asia, with the subcontinent’s youth taking confrontational stances against the values of previous generations. From that defiance, an impassioned and prolific fashion flame was born and the ever so mischievous aura of streetwear came to be, ultimately saturating the streets of Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuku with the A-line silhouettes comprising Japan and Tokyo’s street style today. 

Born out of infatuation with music, dance, and fashion, Ritmo Apparel - the love child of fashion designer and entrepreneur May El Deeb- launched in January 2021, and since then wardrobes across Egypt have been looking a lot grungier. Now its latest release, the Tokyo Collection, is taking after the at-times flamboyant streetwear of Japan’s fashion scene.

“The main inspiration came from the persona of the brand...it's everything and its opposite, a disciplined rebel, a loud and fun-loving introvert, a calm storm, and a delicate rockstar,” El Deeb tells @SceneStyled. “Ritmo is a catalyst for individuals trying to express their unique sense of style through the selection of some pieces to become a statement for who they are and who they want to be.” 

The Tokyo Collection heavily embodies the robustness of city life, materialized in a series of geometric cutouts and asymmetrical long silhouettes. The tight-knit re-articulation of the cyberpunk scene is methodically threaded into the seams of the limited collection, with the frayed edges of the Hitaisho skirt and the barely fashioned figuration of the military green sweater dress adding to the unkemptness of the hustling urban life.
