Quwa Amps Up the Hip-Hop Scene With Grungy Corduroy Sets

Established in 2019 - after years of dedicated fashion indoctrination in Milan - Quwa is the local brand that is entirely Egyptian rap scene approved. From launching extensible lines of graphic tees to tapping into co-ords, the brand is not just a self-proclaimed powerhouse, but it truly cements its empowering motif by being unapologetically eccentric.

Inspired by that filthy undone feel of hip-hop, Quwa draws on individuals - rap giants included - when constructing its garments. “I love the rap scene in Egypt, it truly inspires me,” Quwa tells SceneStyled. “The vibe of the brand aligns super well with that scene, I purposefully choose bolder colours to contrast the earthier tones and to highlight words like ‘Quwa’ and ‘Qahera’.” (Meaning ‘Power’ and ‘Victory’ in Arabic, respectively).

Quwa follows a ‘play by ear’ adjacent brand philosophy, nothing is solid because it’s all about the ebb and flow of the local fashion industry, particularly the resources available on the market. “A lot of it is luck,’ Quwa continues. “I go into my sourcing process with an idea but never anything too formed. There are times when you’ll find yourself with ample access to cool fabrics and multicoloured zippers, and others where you’ll go home empty-handed.”

After captivating the likes of Abo El Anwar and Felukah, the brand’s corduroy and denim sets reign supreme within the context of the regional fashion scene. Subsequent to expressing a sincere fondness for the local hip-hop scene, Quwa hopes to collaborate on capsule collections dedicated to individual artists. Think celebrity styling but pushed to its furthest fashion extent.
