Post Apocalyptic Fashion Shoot À La Mad Max

We've always trembled with a dark sense of enjoyment when we watched movies about the end of the world. We joked about 12/12/2012 and the dawn of the apocalypse. We laughed at and ridiculed those who lived in fear of the reality of death and the inevitably eternal struggle to survive. Will we survive? Will anything last forever? What is survival? Life comes and goes. Words eventually fade away. Skyscrapers vanish and disappear. But, as long as one human still exists, fashion is forever. The exquisitely talented ‘Tim-burton-ly dark’ Abdullah Sabry and his team of aesthetically inspiring individuals came together to bestow upon us The Last One Alive, their Mad Max-inspired modelling photo shoot.

The model, Iryna Yanchukovich, stands as the lone survivor of the apocalypse, portraying the darkness and deep animalistic survival persona a human becomes obligated to utilise. Her body language and facial expressions accurately and simultaneously portray strength, desperation, and a sense of never-ending struggle. The work as a whole appropriately and generously complements the art represented in the Oscar-sweeping movie, Mad Max: Fury Road. The movie earned Oscars in all the following categories:

Film Editing: Margaret Sixel
Costume Design: Jenny Beavan
Makeup: Lesley Vanderwalt, Elka Wardega and Damian Martin
Sound Editing: Mark Mangini and David White
Sound Mixing: Chris Jenkins, Gregg Rudloff and Ben Osmo
Production design: Production design by Colin Gibson; set decoration by Lisa Thompson

All of the above are representations of the artistic elements to a movie. Abdullah Sabry’s work is hence very smartly allocated to the art of expression that fashion truly represents. According to Sabry, “The life we live in today is an inevitable cycle of self-destruction that will one day lead to our demise. Then, and only then, will we see the animalistic survival structure that mankind has suppressed.”
