Merna Rady Brings Slick LA Fashion to Cairo's It Girls

Egypt’s first ‘Instagram baddie’ brand is officially here. Following suit in the spirit of all things LA and hip hop, Merna Rady is the newest fashion addition to the local scene that imports the baddie aesthetic into Egypt, and we’re so here for it.

So what is Insta baddie fashion? Flattering, comfortable, and most importantly on-trend clothing that can easily be dressed up or down depending on your needs. Think sweatpants, but for the nightclub. Or rather, think sweatpants, but without the contempt.

Although this style can be seen abroad at brands like Meshki or Missguided, this aesthetic is truly untapped in the local market. “I wasn’t sure if people were going to like it because I didn’t know if peopled wanted to wear this kind of clothing in Egypt," Merna Rady tells #CairoScene. "But I was surprised with the positive reactions. My customers were happy I was able to import this kind of style into the country.”

The young designer prioritizes creating figure-hugging pieces that can make women feel their very best. “I’ve struggled with my body image in the past, and most people do," Rady says. "But instead of thinking of plastic surgery or anything like that, I want to show people that just dressing in a certain way can make a difference. I try to create really flattering clothing that can empower women to feel confident.”

After studying fashion in Los Angeles for three years, Merna Rady came back to Egypt during ‘Rona and put the pedal to the metal. With nearly a year of planning ahead of her, she rolled up her sleeves and got to sewing her first-ever releases. Only officially launched this past September, she’s already been able to expand her team and plans on releasing a men’s collection very soon.

The designer is soon dropping her upcoming winter collection, which is set to feature a variety of snake prints, beiges, browns, cargo print, and a lot of matching sets. In the meantime, shop the summer collection through mernarady.com
