Louis Moinet Luxury Watch Celebrates Egypt's Most Celebrated Landmark

Unique, enduring and awe-inspiring are just some of the qualities you'd need for a colossal construct to be counted among the wonders of the world. In their honour, Swiss luxury watchmaker Louis Moinet has created an equally unique watch for each of the eight world wonders that have captured their imagination. Among their number is a watch based on the Pyramid of Khufu in Egypt, which in turn has captured our attention.

Each of these one-of-a-kind pieces are fashioned with materials and patterns specific to their respective world wonder, and for the Pyramid of Khufu, each detail was carefully considered. Willow Creek Jasper, a stone whose colour and texture resembles the sand dunes of Giza, was used to create the dial, which was then engraved with hieroglyphics and encircled with carvings of lotus flowers. The pyramid itself was crafted from gold, with grains of enamel to emulate the white limestone that historically covered the actual Khufu pyramid. Finally, the statue of Khufu was incorporated into the piece with black basalt, just like the ancient statue it resembles, and painted with gold.

The watch is presented in a Louis Moinet travel trunk, along with the rest of the collection. These pieces represent the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the Colosseum in Rome, the city of Petra in Jordan, Rio de Janeiro's statue of Christ the Redeemer, the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal in India and Peru's Machu Picchu.
