Local Fashion Brand Anjum is Serving Vivid Summer Robes

Homegrown modest wear label Anjum is offering up vivid robes for the summer season.

Anjum hit the local scene with their ethereal headscarves before introducing robes into their portfolio last April, just in time for Ramadan. With complex and dynamic patterns woven with vivacious and vibrant colours, those robes are perfect for a technicolour moment.

"I named my brand Anjum, plural of najma, because I wanted to portray pride in our language and culture, while also committing to the idea that any woman who wears an Anjum piece will feel like a star,” Nourhan El Sakhawy, founder of Anjum, tells SceneStyled. Arabic for ‘stars’, Anjum is a product of El Sakhawy’s desire to stay true to her Egyptian identity through fashion.

With most modest clothing coming in black or neutral colours, El Sakhawy - as a graphic designer with a love for vivid colours - made it a point to incorporate beautiful patterns into her designs, creating statement pieces that are both modest and effervescent. “I can be modest and beautiful,” El Sakhawy says. From an Islamic perspective, nothing says that covering up means looking plain or ugly.”
