Feminine Flights of Fancy with Honey & Lace's Dresses

Rather than focusing on the little black dress and red lippie, Honey & Lace celebrates femininity as represented by airy fabrics, pastels, and a love of all things pretty.

Feminine Flights of Fancy with Honey & Lace's Dresses

“When I feel feminine, I can do anything. I feel indulgent. I feel empowered and I love myself,” Engy Ashraf tells #CairoScene. The 25-year-old designer and founder of Honey & Lace injects that same emphasis on womanhood in her designs - the fashion reincarnation of Shania Twain’s ‘Man, I Feel Like A Woman’. “For lots of girls, we feel our most powerful when we tune into our femininity. You embody a different character.”

After working in fashion marketing in Paris, Ashraf decided to angle her brand to show off a lackadaisical approach to womanhood, prompting the casual visual style she uses in her label’s online presence. Rather than focusing on the little black dress and red lippie, Ashraf leans towards airy fabrics, pastels, and a love of all things pretty. “When I design a piece, I’m designing for myself,” Ashraf says. “I wouldn’t put out a design if I’m not sure it would personally make me feel my best.”

Ashraf’s pieces range from floral summer frocks to crimson sequined belt dresses. Although Honey & Lace’s existing collection only features ready-to-wear clothing, they have plans to expand into accessories very soon.
