Conscious Living with Artisanal Homewear Line Beit RAMLA

RAMLA is no stranger to refined tastes. It's a shoe brand to be reckoned with. After winning Fashion Trust Arabia in the footwear category, it has since adorned the pages of many of the world’s most popular glossy fashion mags. During lockdown, the coveted footwear fav launched a sister label called Beit RAMLA. It’s all the glam of RAMLA, but reimagined for a more pandemic-appropriate context.

The homewear line is RAMLA’s first collection made from Egyptian cotton and cashmere. It’s also the first time the brand releases anything that isn't shoes. Their handmade home slippers aside, Beit RAMLA offers toiletry bags, pottery, candles, and body products like Himalayan pink sea salt soap— all made by Egyptian hands.

The two sister brands are the brainchildren of none other than designer and architect Reem Alaa Hamed. To her, the home line was heavily inspired by Egyptian culture in the same way her shoe designs are. “With Beit RAMLA, we want to reflect the Egyptian culture in spaces, and a way of living by using organic, sustainable, high-quality material, all of which is made by local artisans,”  Hamed tells SceneStyled. “If I were to describe the brand in a sentence, I would say that it’s the ‘sound of space’ type of products - minimal, timeless, easy, and comfortable for everyone.”

Putting an emphasis on conscious living, the designer hopes to encourage a personalised lifestyle within its client base. “It is important nowadays to focus on the space we live in and what kind of products we use in our daily lives, and try to be more conscious of the environment,” Hamed adds.

Beit RAMLA is available through ramlastore.com or at @madu_cairo.
