Amna El-Shandaweely: Road To Nairobi

Designer Amna El Shandaweely is not hesitant with embracing Egypt's African identity, and she is making a bold, fashionable move in expressing that through her new limited edition collection that lays undefined between summer and winter.

"I always travel to discover things and get a better view on the world, but in Kenya I found what I couldn't find anywhere aside from Egypt; a feeling of belonging, of being home. It's the way people act like and feel like that makes Kenya's culture so close to ours and I want more people to realise the connection between us and all of Africa," says El Shandaweely about the inspiration behind her project.

The models for her new collection, aptly named Road To Nairobi, are all going to be African and Nubian, giving the line the essence of the culture. The fabric used for the clothes is all African, imported from Kenya, Nigeria and Ethiopia, and of course, the very famous Egyptian cotton. "We Egyptians rarely consider ourselves as an African country and I want to merge the two different, yet  similar, cultures together and embark the beauty of the combination," she continues.

Road To Nairobi is to be considered El Shandaweely's second casual wear collection for both genders, aside from her trademark ethnic touches in previously released fashion collections, like Road To Fayoum It's set to launch around the 5th of September along with a photo-shoot of the designs that tell the story of an artist, set to discover her African roots and see the world from a different point of view.
