Korba's Historical Cairo Palace Cinema to be Renovated

The historical Palace Cinema in Korba will be renovated, as Cairo Governor Atef Abdel Hamid plans to restore the historical buildings in Cairo that hold a great historical value or unique architectural style, according to Egypt Today. No details were given on when the works will start, or when the full renovation will be completed.

In the last few years, 228 cinemas have been closed off across Egypt, 61 of which are in Cairo. Last November, the “Egyptian Cinema Challenges” seminar took place, where cinema critic Khaled Mahmoud admitted that Egyptian cinema is suffering an obvious crisis. “The invulnerable proof of this huge crisis is the absence of the Egyptian movie from the Cairo International Film Festival‘s international competition for the first time in the festival’s history, it is a lump in our throats that will not heal easily”, he said.

Also, the Egyptian Ministry of Culture decided to create the first documented archive of the Egyptian Cinema and its heritage since 1896, which will be named “Egyptian Cinematic”, in order to support the Egyptian cinematic heritage that represented Egyptian and Arab culture for decades.
