Prosecution Team Launches Investigation into AUC Student’s On-Campus Death

It has this week been announced that a New Cairo prosecution office is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an AUC student who was found unconscious last week in the AUC campus pool, as reported by Al Ahram Online.

Ahmed Mohammed Abdel Aziz, a 22-year-old mechanical engineering student, was announced dead after having lost consciousness and was quickly rushed to the nearby the Air Defense Hospital in a coma, but could not be revived and passed away early Tuesday.  A criminal forensic team is currently looking into the locations of CCTV units in and around the Paul B. Hannon Swimming Pool to determine the causes of the accident, or the possible presence of foul play. The pool itself has been closed off until further notice.

Brian MacDougall, the executive vice president for administration and finance at AUC, is also said to be leading and internal investigation, according to Egypt Independent. Flags at AUC will be lowered at half mast in tribute of Abdel Aziz's passing.
