YouTube Music & YouTube Premium Are Now Officially Available in Egypt

Yes, you read that right - you can finally officially download and subscribe to YouTube Music for all your listening needs, and get a YouTube Premium subscription to get rid of those pesky ads. And yes, this means you can *FINALLY* close the YouTube app on your phone and the video will still play in the background.

In a virtual press conference CairoScene attended today, Liliana Abudalo, Head of Music Partnerships for YouTube in the Middle East and North Africa, along with Hisham El Nazer, General Manager of Google Egypt, announced the long-awaited release of their two subscription-streaming services right here in Egypt.

Abudalo clarified the difference between YouTube Music and YouTube Premium explaining that a paid subscription to YouTube Music lets you legally stream their full library of music, as well as music videos and live recordings, without any adverts. Meanwhile, YouTube Premium is an upgrade to your regular YouTube account, letting you watch as much content as you want with no ads, as well as allowing you to download videos to watch offline and closing the app on your phone without interrupting playback.

Subscriptions for YouTube Music start from EGP 49.99 a month for a single user to EGP 74.99 a month for a family plan, while YouTube Premium costs EGP 59.99 for an individual membership and EGP119.99 for a family plan AND that includes full access to all of YouTube Music’s perks too for an awesome combo deal.

“Over the years, YouTube played an important role in the success of music labels and artists in the Arab world. We built YouTube Music to help people find and enjoy the music they love whether it's through official releases, iconic music videos or favourite live performances all while bringing artists closer to their fans,” explains Liliana Abudalo. She adds that the differentiating factor between YouTube Music and other music streaming services is its top-notch artificial intelligence that learns your preferences and recommends new music to suit your taste, thanks to the crazy amount of data that YouTube has amassed over the years.

“For over a decade, millions in Egypt have come to YouTube to watch, learn and also listen. With music being the second most popular category on YouTube, I am excited to launch YouTube Music in Egypt which will give our users access to the massive music catalogue that exists on our platform, helping them find the music they love. From new releases by Cairokee to iconic classics by Mohamed Abdel Wahab, and of course viral covers to live performances, it’s all here,” said Hisham El Nazer. “We’re also excited to launch YouTube Premium, an ad-free subscription service that allows our users in Egypt to watch all their videos on YouTube without ads, and also enables background play and other amazing features.”

If you sign up to either service now, on either individual or family plan, you’ll get a one-month free trial.
