You Can Soon Renew Your National ID at Egyptian Embassies Overseas

The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have approved a proposal to allow Egyptian citizens residing abroad to apply for the renewal of their national ID at Egyptian embassies all over the world.

Despite being stuck in one country for the better part of the year, we're still a global society. It is completely possible to stay in your own room yet stay completely connected with absolutely everything going on anywhere else in the world. And likewise, it should be possible for Egyptians anywhere in the world to stay connected with Egypt - especially when so many of us are stranded abroad due to COVID-19. That should be true, whether it comes to keeping up with the local news, staying in touch with family on Facebook, or being able to renew your national ID from abroad. Except that last one hasn't really been as easy as the rest - until now.

The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have got their stuff together, and approved a proposal to allow Egyptian citizens residing abroad to apply for the renewal of their national ID at Egyptian embassies all over the world, where they would also be able to pick them up. They're still working on the practicalities of the proposal, but once it goes through, it will allow Egyptians living overseas to more easily and conveniently participate in local affairs, such as future elections.
