Will ‘Mamalek El Nar’ Be the Next Game of Thrones?

Promising to be the most ambitious Arab historical series the Middle East has seen yet, ‘Mamalek El Nar’ (Kingdoms of Fire) is set to be released this November 17th on MBC.

The series - directed by British award-winning director Peter Webber and produced by Genomedia, a production company based in Tunis, Dubai and Cairo - will star Egyptian actors Khaled El Nabawy, Mahmoud Nasr and Egyptian veteran Mahmoud el-Gendy. Among the other actors participating in this production are mega-stars Mona Wassef, Kinda Hanna and Rashid Assaf from Syria.

Having been in production for the past year, the historically-inspired epic portrays the fall of the Mamluks and the rise of Ottoman rule in the early 16th century, bringing to light an eventful period in Middle Eastern history.

With its debut fast approaching, the series is expected to be one of the world’s biggest undertakings this year, costing $40 million in production with an internationally-acclaimed cast and crew.

Filmed in Tunis and rumoured to be available on Netflix as well, this epic series is looking to be the most anticipated production in the Middle East. Do you think this could be the next Game of Thrones?
