Whale Shark Greet Divers in Abu Galoum Protected Area After Red Sea Clean-Up

We can go on and on about the importance of protecting the environment for our children and our children’s children, but at the end of the day, it’s not just about us humans. Serving as a reminder of what we’re fighting for, the Ministry of Environment shared these sweet pictures of whale sharks in the Red Sea, greeting divers after they completed a clean-up campaign in Taba. The campaign took place between June 26th and June 29th, and was responsible for removing four tons of waste from the beach and sea floor, which included car tires, beach umbrellas, trees and fishing nets.

The emergence of these friendly giants was attributed to the nationwide effort to maintain the biological diversity of the Red Sea, which was helped in large part by the 3-month pause in marine and tourism activity due to COVID-19.
