Egypt’s all-time leading scorer turned footballing coach of Egyptian Premier League club Masry is facing a three-match ban, after chasing down and assaulting a cameraman at the end of the team’s final match of the season.

It is unclear exactly what happened on the pitch that caused the out of control brawl after Friday’s 2-2 draw between Smouha and Ghazl El-Mahalla, which catapulted Smouha into third spot in the premier league, earning a place at next year's African Confederation Cup. However, as the game ended on the final match of the season, an ugly brawl ensued which led to legendary footballer Hossam Hassan chasing a cameraman across the pitch, knocking him down, punching him, and breaking his camera.

Media outlets like Albawaba claim the camera man was a low ranking officer, not wearing an official uniform, but affiliated with the Interior Ministry. However, according to Youm7 the victim is a PR camera man, and alleges the attack was unprovoked and has filed a complaint with the police.

For his involvement in the embarrassing fiasco, "The Egyptian Football Association's competitions committee has decided to suspend Hossam Hassan for three matches and handed him an EGP 10,000 fine over his unsporting behaviour," the EFA said in a statement on its official website.

This is not the first time Hassan has sparked controversy, as the 49-year-old Egyptian footballing legend has been banned several times for disciplinary reasons including being fired as Masry’s coach in 2008 after him and his twin brother were involved in another ridiculous clash, while playing Algeria’s JSM Bejaia.
