VeryNile Collaborates with Cairo Fishermen to Clean the Nile
With some help from VeryNile, Cairo’s fishermen are taking to their boats everyday with a new addition to their work routine— the removal of marine litter from the Nile.
Even those who are unfamiliar with VeryNile’s green initiatives might be able to guess from the name that they're all about the Nile. The NGO is wholly dedicated to ensuring that Egypt's oldest (and certainly longest) national treasure gets clean and stays that way - and to that end, they've launched a new initiative that brings Cairo's industrious fishermen on board.
With some help from VeryNile, Cairo’s fishermen are taking to their boats everyday with a new addition to their work routine— the removal of marine litter. VeryNile provided the fishermen with cleaning equipment and the proper knowledge on how to correctly remove the litter, and how to compact the plastic before sending them off to be recycled.
To motivate fishermen to participate in the cleanup venture, VeryNile is offering them monetary compensation for every kilogram of plastic they collect. And considering that keeping the Nile clean will lead to more fish to sell, you can say this is a win-win for everyone involved.
