Universal Healthcare Insurance Programme Begins in Suez

The first phase of the Universal Healthcare Insurance programme continues its roll-out through Egypt, having most recently been inaugurated in the Suez governorate. The roll-out of Egypt's new insurance system began with a pilot launch in Port Said in 2019, with the rest of the first phase prioritizing low-income governorates like Suez, Ismailia, Aswan and South Sinai, and governorates like Cairo and Giza saved for the sixth and final phase of the plan.

Over three million Egyptians across all governorates have registered for the new insurance system as of October 2020, which is expected to go live sooner than originally scheduled, with the 15-year plan ending in 2032 having been condensed to a 10-year plan ending in 2027 since January 2021.
