United States Sends 250 Ventilators to Egypt

To support Egypt in combating the ongoing pandemic, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided 250 ventilators to local hospitals. As part of a strategic partnership aimed at shared responsibility and solidarity, the two countries have cooperated to address emerging humanitarian needs, like when Egypt previously provided a shipment of medical aid to the United States last April. The American ambassador to Egypt Jonathan Cohen commented on the shipment, saying that this latest move is the United States’ way of repaying the favour.

The ventilators will be dispersed among 24 hospitals in 12 governorates which have been identified as the most in need, and are readily equipped with medical teams that have been trained to use these models. Since 1978, the portfolio between Egypt and USAID has accumulated value of over USD 30 billion, with healthcare aid making up about one billion dollars from that sum value.
