USD 3 Billion Waste-to-Hydrogen Plant to Be Built in East Port Said

The Suez Canal Economic Zone has granted preliminary approval for a USD 3 billion waste-to-hydrogen plant by German developer H2-Industries. To be built at East Port Said, the plant would be able to convert four million tonnes of non-recyclable plastic and organic waste into 300,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

Not only will this create fuel out of garbage, but this form of green hydrogen is expected to be half the cost of conventional green hydrogen, and even cheaper than other methods of hydrogen production like blue hydrogen and grey hydrogen.

The plant is currently in the feasibility study stage, although it is believed they are likely to go forwards as H2-Industries has plans that extend as far as 2025. If built, the plant will be considered a breakthrough in terms of economic viability and environmental impact.
