USD 176 Million to Construct First Dry Port at 6th of October City

The Giza governorate will establish the first dry port in Egypt in collaboration with DB Shenker, El Sewedy Electrics and 3A International. 

Costing USD 176 million, the dry port will be built just outside of 6th of October city, giving it access to railways that link Cairo to Alexandria.

The new port is estimated to hold 720 thousand containers per day, which will effectively lesen traffic on the main roads and other ports. Currently, the main points of imports and exports in Egypt are the Alexandria and Dakhleya ports; this new dry port will help carry their weight. This project is part of the country’s plans to build eight new ports, effectively creating a smoother passage for international traffic.

The state-of-the-art facility is the first of its kind in Egypt, and the largest in Africa. It will include a container yard that can hold shipping containers for imports or exports, cold rooms, an internal network of roads, and an internal railroad. It will also feature a complete integrated customs department, a parking space and scaling facility for trucks.
