UNFPA Launches Initiative to Empower Egyptian Girls

‘Noura’ is a new national initiative to support and empower young women - particularly those from marginalized communities - by building their social, health and economic assets.

The programme was launched in the midst of El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) at the ‘Investing in Girls for the Bright Future of Egypt’ event, as part of an ongoing partnership between GFF and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). During its debut, it was revealed that ‘Noura’ looks to invest heavily in the potential of young girls. With approximately nine million adolescent girls in Egypt, the initiative will direct the government towards programmes specifically tailored to their needs.

The event also saw the launch of the ‘Girls Assets Framework’ which is a program tailored to addressing the unique needs of young girls and empowering them to reach their full potential.

‘Noura’ is supported and implemented by Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the National Council for Women (NCW), the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.
