UNESCO to Award Misr El Kheir US$50,000 Prize for Girls' and Women's Education

The Misr El-Kheir Foundation will be receiving this year’s UNESCO Prize for Girls and Women’s Education - a sum of US$50,000 -  as recognition for their efforts in the education field.

Misr El-Kheir Foundation will be awarded their prize during a ceremony at UNESCO's headquarters, held on the 11th of October, which also coincides with the International Day of the Girl Child.

Misr El-Kheir is being recognised for its projects providing opportunities for children in villages, as well as its focus on girls who've had to forego education due to social circumstances such as early marriage, among other things. The project also targets children in remote areas between the ages of 6 to 14 years of age, as well as those who are not enrolled in primary school.

The educational programmes have been tailored to the needs of the community, and work towards halting adolescent marriages by providing girls with the necessary education they need.

The UNESCO prize for Girls' and Womens' education was founded in 2015 and is a token of honour and recognition to those having made exceptional contributions where women’s education is concerned. The prize is working towards the 2030 sustainable development agenda, which includes advancements towards education and gender equality.
