Train Derailed in Giza, At Least 5 Dead

A train headed from Cairo to Upper Egypt crashed in the village of Abu Al Azayem near Al Ayat in Giza and has claimed the lives of 5 passengers and injured another 27, according to El Wafd. In a telephone interview, Giza Governor Mohamed Kamal El Daly told OnTV that EGP 2000 would be paid to the injured and EGP 5000 would be given to the families of the deceased in restitution. An eye witness told Youm7, the crash took place at approximately 09:15 AM.
In a telephone interview with CBC Extra, ambulance Director Ahmed Al Ansary said that hospitals in Giza are on high alert and ready to receive patients. He also explained that according to the initial reports they had received, three passenger cars were derailed, adding that 20 ambulance cars were sent to site of the crash.The crash has brought railway transportation in Upper Egypt to a halt.
