Three Egyptian Universities to Receive 3,000 Feddans for Research

The Supreme Council of Universities has overseen a cooperation protocol between Cairo University, Tanta University, and Al-Arish University to designate 1,000 feddans of farmland each for agricultural research, with the hopes of potentially developing an agricultural system that will allow Egypt to become self-sufficient.

This initiative falls in line with the Egyptian government’s plans to reclaim and cultivate desert lands, and encourage graduates of agricultural colleges to participate in small and medium projects across the country.

The 1,000 feddans will mostly be used to help see how modern irrigation systems and solar energy can be used to reclaim land, with 200 feddans saved for scientific research into the development of new crops, and new ways of managing water consumption levels within the region.
