This Year's Women Economic Forum to Take Place in Egypt for the First Time

The annual Women's Economic Forum (WEF) is a global event that brings women from all walks of life to connect and enhance their businesses, their networks and their ideas. This platform has been a force for equality for a quarter of a century, and in its 26th edition the WEF will come to Cairo - the first time it has come to the Middle East.

Dr. Harbeen Aurora is the founder of the annual event, and was awarded for her achievements as a philanthropist and business leader at the 2018 World Youth Forum in Sharm El Sheikh. In talking about the significance of Egypt putting its all behind the event, Dr. Aurora said, "[it's] testament to Egypt’s commitment to enabling its women leaders and bringing together women from all over the world, to expand business opportunities and enhance personal influence."

The WEF will be organised by The Worx for Events, whose founder - Neamat Khalil - put to words exactly why this year's edition of the platform is so meaningful: "We’re extremely proud to be bringing WEF to Egypt. It is happening in the right place, at the right time. This is an era when Egyptian women are shining in leadership roles across a broad spectrum of sectors."

And that's no small claim: 20 Egyptian women have been featured in the Forbes Middle East's list of Top 100 Most Influential Women last year, and the government launched a programme under Egypt's 2030 Development Strategy to ensure that women find their place in over 40% of leadership roles.

Over the past quarter of a century, the WEF has brought more than 100,000 members from across 150 countries to share their wisdom and inspire one another. This year, Cairo will see over a thousand women from Egypt and abroad engage in conversations on a global scale on issues that are just as large, from technology, to finance, to the environment.
