Every year since 2018, socially conscious Egyptian brand 'The Sahara Collection' releases a dedicated line called 'Save a Paw', which focuses exclusively on protecting animals and animal shelters throughout Egypt. This time, with the release of a fresh line of t-shirts, they're tackling one of the most tragic and bloodiest issues around: the crime of dogfighting.

As an advocate for animal rights, constantly donating to and working with a network of animal shelters, partner and designer Karmah Sabry was shocked by the prevalence of dog fighting - especially with how quietly it slips under the radar. "The more I deal with animal shelters, the more I know about all these issues, and there's way more than I thought," Sabry tells #CairoScene. "I started seeing different cases these shelters take in, and many of them were brought in by dog fighting. This one pitbull didn't have a face anymore."

As a breed, pitbulls are commonly forced to endure the brutal abuse that comes from this blood sport. To shed a light on their plight, Save a Paw and photographer Taimour Osman released a campaign shoot alongside their collection, featuring coach Yassin and TV presenter Nour Eldin posing next to pitbulls while wearing the line's t-shirts.

Save a Paw's previous lines promoted animal adoption and helped salvage the reputation of Egypt's local baladi dogs, which are also affected by dogfighting. "They use baladi dogs as bait," Sabry adds. "My sister saw someone direct their dog to attack a baladi in the street, and he just walked away afterwards."

All proceeds from Save a Paw's t-shirts will go directly to the many animal shelters that Save a Paw collaborates with, including Unleashed, Hope Shelter, Animal Protection Foundation, and Fur Rescue.
