The First PSA World Championships To Award Women More Than Men Happens At The Pyramids

One of the hottest topics in international sports today is the battle for equal pay for women athletes. Finally, the pay gap is getting squashed as CIB and IEvents prepare to make history hosting the CIB PSA Women's World Championships at the Pyramids of Giza.

For the first time in squash history, the CIB PSA Women's World Championship will award more money than the PSA Men's World Championship. A combined prize of $430,000 will be up for grabs as 64 of the world's leading female squash players gather for a historic showdown at the Great Pyramids of Giza. That's over $100,000 more than the men can expect to win when the PSA Men's World Championships takes place in November.

There's plenty of exciting storylines developing heading into the championship. World Champion, Nour El Sherbini, looks to defend her title as a hungry World No.1 squash phenom, Raneem El Welily, searches for the homecoming Championship win. Meanwhile, World No. 3, France's Camille Serme, hopes to take home the title as a souvenir from her visit to the Pyramids. Or will the World No.4, British and US Open victor Nouran Gohar, find a way to build off her insane 2-0 US comeback win and end up taking the Championship title from El Sherbini?

As the women make history, the men's CIB Egyptian Squash Open PSA Platinum event will also take place at the same time and location. Participating at the Squash Open are the Egyptian titans World No. 1 Ali Farag, World No.3 Tarek Momen and World No. 4 Karim Abdel Gawad. This Platinum event will be the battle of the who's who of squash. All of whom will be looking to take a part of the $185,000 prize money. Fortunately, those who fall short will get another chance of winning at the Pyramids as this Platinum event will return to this iconic venue for the next three years.

"I am very happy to witness the return of this championship and to be a part of bringing it back. I would like to thank CIB for empowering the squash platform in Egypt over the years, supporting the players, and now hosting two of the biggest tournaments on the PSA World Tour," Tournament Director and IEvents CEO Amr Mansi said during the press conference. This year, both tournaments will be taking place simultaneously from October 24th to November 1st, 2019.

This is Egypt's fourth time hosting the PSA Women's World Championships. Although, what makes the CIB PSA Women's World Championships historic is that it will mark the first time that women will earn more money than men. What better place for sports history to be written than at the oldest venue on earth once ruled over by ancient female icons like Nefertiti and Cleopatra. Who among these competitors will join their dominance over the Pyramids is anyone's guess?
