The British Council’s Digital Library Has Been Made Available Online for Free

First inaugurated among the likes of Princess Diana, Prince Charles and Margaret Thatcher, the British Council’s Agouza library has opened up its digital database to the public for free. Long serving as one of the most valuable and popular English libraries in Egypt, the library has 100,000 academic books, 3,000 ebooks and audio books, 4,000 magazines, and countless other newspapers, comics, films, and software training programmes. Joining many of the world’s biggest arts and educational institutions, the historical library has taken this latest move in an effort to help students and academics continue their education at home.

“During these difficult times, we want to continue to connect Egyptians with the best of the UK’s knowledge and resources,” Elizabeth White, the Country Director of the British Council, said in a press statement. “Our vision is that the future for the UK depends on people of all cultures living and working together on foundations of education, mutual understanding, respect and trust.”

The digital library will be available to members aged 18 and above, who will be able to register online to access the full digital database. In June, the first British Council Digital Libraries app will also be available, so readers can access the full database wherever they may be.
