Talks Underway to Exempt Egypt from India's Wheat Export Ban

The Egyptian government is currently in talks with India to receive an exemption from India's recently-implemented wheat export ban.

The decision to ban the export of wheat was made due to a dangerously high heatwave, which has affected India's output of crops.

While the ban was made to ensure there is enough wheat for India's own population, the Indian government has announced that it will make exceptions to export wheat for deliveries back by already-issued letters of credit, or to nations that submit their request for wheat in order to meet their food security needs.

Alongside attempts to strengthen domestic farming, Egypt has been working to diversify wheat sources from other nations such as France, the US and Argentina, and more recently Pakistan and Mexico.
