Suez Canal Economic Zone Goes All In On Green Hydrogen Ahead of COP27

The Suez Canal Economic Zone is being prepped for a slew of green hydrogen projects, just as Egypt prepares to host the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in November in Sharm El Sheikh.

As the local economy shifts its focus towards a greener economy, the Suez Canal Economic Zone hopes to transform the area into a global hub for green fuel ship supply, and is currently reviewing multiple offers for green hydrogen projects for the Sokhna industrial zone and the East Port Said zone. The project will also rely on wind power created elsewhere in Egypt.

Right now, the Suez Industrial Development Company is working on an ammonia production project, which hopes to generate about 1,200 indirect and direct job opportunities as part of the economic zone’s broader goal of creating one million new jobs by 2030.
