'Sokar Mazbout' National Campaign Treats Diabetics for Free

A group of medical professors specializing in diabetes and endocrinology has launched a campaign titled ‘Sokar Mazbout’ to treat nearly half-a-million diabetics in Egypt free-of-charge.

Dr. Nihal Nader, the executive director of the campaign, revealed that they will be helping out with every step of the standard medical procedure for treating diabetes, starting with medical exams and any necessary blood tests or scans. They will then follow up with a consultation service over the internet in order to comply with social distancing.

The campaign’s aim is, first and foremost, to distance diabetics from hospitals where they could easily contract COVID-19, as diabetics are especially vulnerable to the virus. Secondly, the campaign aims to make treatment accessible to the underprivileged who could be saved from the consequences of untreated diabetes, such as foot amputation, which they are often exposed to due to an inability to afford medical treatment while the diabetes is still in its early stages.

All the profits attributed to the campaign will be handled by the ‘100 Million Health’ government initiative. The diabetes campaign intends to operate in all governorates across Egypt, and is currently trying to expand its scope in order to include patients from every area in the country through 600 different medical convoys.
