Prominent Economist Mohamed El-Erian Announced New President of Cambridge's Queen College

“We are delighted to announce the election of Dr. Mohamed A. El-Erian as the 42nd President of Queen's College. He will take office on 1 October, 2020,” Cambridge University officially stated on their website, announcing that the Egyptian-American Cambridge Alumni, economist, researcher and innovator, Mohamed El-Erian, will be returning to the university, heading its prestigious, centuries-old Cambridge Queen College.

Born in New York City in 1958 to an Egyptian father and a French mother, Mohamed El-Erian, currently Chief Economic Advisor at Allianz, has been featured four times on Foreign Policy's 'Top 100 Global Thinkers', and has authored two New York Times Best Sellers. Back in 2009, the business innovator theorized the widely-acclaimed New Normal concept during the global financial crisis, which traces and helps navigate expectations of economic performance in advanced economies.“I am particularly privileged to return to Queen’s College at a time of great change, not only in social and economic affairs, but also due to exciting technological innovations that influence education and our society in so many ways,” said El-Erian, elaborating on his enthusiasm to take on his new role.

Queens College is one of the oldest and largest constitutent colleges at the University of Cambridge. Founded in 1448, its alumni includes prominent figures across different fields, like presidents, heads of governments, royalty, astronauts, and influential religious leaders. Its outgoing president is the distinguished British economist, John Eatwell, former senior advisor to the UK's Labour Party.
