Pope Tawadros II to Donate Moscow Prize to Build Mosque and Church in Egypt’s New Capital

Pope Tawadros II, the current Pope of Alexandria, has received the Prize of the International Foundation for the Unity of Christian Orthodox Nations in Moscow last Tuesday, reports RT Arabic. He was presented the prize by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.

Pope Tawadros II has stated that he will be donating the money from the prestigious award to help build a cultural central that will include a church and a mosque within Cairo’s new administrative capital.

The prize is given yearly to those who promote Christian values, strengthen ties between Orthodox Christian countries, and encourage inter-faith dialogue, and includes Patriarch Alexy II among its recipients, which Pope Tawadros II mentioned during his acceptance speech in the ceremony, saying that it was an honour in and of itself.

During this year’s ceremony, President of the Republic of Macedonia Gjorge Ivanov and Mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin were also awarded the prize.
