High turnout has prompted Photopia to extend the run of ‘Fifty Years of Cinematic Portrait’, an exhibit that honours the career of Mohamed Bakr, one of Egypt’s most prominent photographers. Opened on February 25th as a part of Cairo Design week, the exhibit was originally scheduled to close on March 10th. However, this closing date has been pushed back by almost a month to April 6th.

This collection is a highlight reel of the cinematographer’s exceptional career, featuring a selection of the over 2,000 works he has shot over the course of his career. One of Egypt’s most important movie set photographers, Mohamed Bakr documented countless moments from the industry’s Golden Age. Visitors to this exhibit are treated to a backstage look at Egypt’s last 50 years of culture and superstardom in arts, politics, sports, science and more.

Some of Bakr’s best known work includes ‘The Bullet is Still in My Pocket’, ‘The Mummy’, ‘Maabodat El Gamahir’ and ‘The Water-Carrier is Dead’. Bakr’s work is also known for depicting the famous film adaptations of the Naguib Mahfouz trilogy (‘Palace Walk’, ‘Palace of Desire’ and ‘Sugar Street’).
