New Multi-Purpose Port in Safaga to Open in 2025

The Ministry of Transport has signed a number of agreements with the UAE’s AD Ports Group to develop and maintain a multi-purpose port in Safaga. The Safaga port is scheduled to start operations in 2025, and will be the first internationally-operated port in Upper Egypt.

According to the agreement, AD Ports will invest up to USD 200 million to develop buildings, equipment, and real estate facilities.

Two 15-year agreements have also been signed between AD Ports and the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone to develop two cement terminals in the ports of Al Arish and West Port Said. The agreement states that both ports will have a huge storage capacity of approximately 1.5 million tons annually. The terminals will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2023.
