New Hotline to Be Created to Report Endangerment of Elderly Egyptians

The Senate is establishing a new law to protect Egypt’s elderly through the creation of a hotline, through which citizens can report any risks to their security, safety or dignity.

Article 23 of the draft law necessitates that the government will both oversee the creation of this hotline, and provide a rapid response to the complaint while informing the relevant authorities at the Ministry of Health and Population.

If passed, it will represent a new avenue through which Egyptian citizens may work to protect one another from a variety of medical or societal risks to the elderly, some of which may have been previously underreported or under-represented.
