New Delta Plant in Egypt Sets Four Guinness World Records

The New Delta Agriculture Wastewater Treatment, Recycling, and Reuse Plant has set four Guinness World Records. The plant has broken the records for largest water treatment facility at 320,600 square metres, the largest water treatment plant with a capavity of 86.8 m3 per second, the largest epoxy coating in a station at 520,339 square metres, and the largest sludge treatment plant with a capacity of 670.01 kilograms.

Developed by a consortium made up of Metito, Orascom Construction, Arab Contractors, and Hassan Allam Construction, this water treatment plant was mandated by the Ministry of Defense, Armed Forces Engineering Authority Water Department and is capable of treating 7.5 million cubic metres of water daily.

The plant optimises freshwater use and fortifies climate-smart water infrastructure—a crucial step aligning with Egypt's broader vision of expanding agricultural lands and fostering resilient communities.

The plant provides irrigation for over 1.2 million acres of agricultural land west of the Nile Delta, simultaneously addressing pollution concerns in Marriott Lake and along the Mediterranean Sea coast in Alexandria. Furthermore, it redirects wastewater and floodwaters away from the Beheira governorate to safeguard existing Delta areas.
