New Automatic Garbage Collection Cars to Clean Cairo's Streets

It’s time to bring out the big guns. Cairo is introducing new garbage collecting vehicles that can suction up to 1.5 tonnes of refuse off the streets, reducing the need for manual collection with brooms or dustpans.

The equipment is imported from the Netherlands, and is part of Egypt’s larger plan to modernise the tools and infrastructure of the General Authority for Cleanliness and Beautification of Cairo. The vehicles will primarily be used in tight alleyways and hard-to-reach places, and are expected to make the seemingly daunting work of cleaning Cairo’s streets safer and more efficient.
