Naguib Mahfouz's 'Taht Il-Mathala' to Be Adapted to Film by Kamla Abu Zekri and Mariam Naoum
The dynamic duo of screenwriter Mariam Naoum and director Kamla Abu Zekri are set to reunite to create a sweeping film adaptation of one of Naguib Mahfouz’s acclaimed short story anthology, 'Taht Il-Mathala'.
Screenwriter Mariam Naoum and director Kamla Abu Zekri have announced that they taking on the gargantuan task of creating a film adaptation of Naguib Mahfouz's acclaimed anthology of of short stories, Taht Il-Mathala.
The five-story anthology is Mahfouz's reflection of Egyptian society through quite abstract, intricately haphazard events. In it, the Nobel-Prize winner's presents a series of events, sometimes unrelated, and plays with concepts of reality and dreams, switching between them throughout.
The adaptation will be the latest in a long line of collaborations between Naoum and Abu Zekri, who have proven to be quite the dynamic female duo, creating critically-acclaimed works usually featuring strong, determined female characters, including Sign El-Nessa and Taht El-Saytara, as well as Wahed Sefr.
