Mo Salah Included in Forbes’ 100 Highest-Paid Athletes in the World List

If Egyptian footballer, Mohamed Salah, wasn’t already a bonafide sports superstar, his recent exploits with English club, Liverpool, have certainly gone some way to cementing his position as one of the world’s very best.

After winning the European club football’s most coveted prize, the UEFA Champions League, and narrowly losing out on the English Premiership in one of the most hotly contested title run-ins in years, Salah’s stock continues to rise, as proven by Forbes’ list of the world’s highest-paid athletes.

Ranked at number 98, Salah is estimated to have earned a total of $25.1 million between June 2018 and June 2019, $16.1 million of which are in salary earnings and prizes winnings, and $9 million coming from endorsements and sponsorship. Salah's earnings might pale in comparison to the others on the list, it certainly represents a mark of huge success for a man who used to spend six hours a day on public transportation as a young child in the Egyptian village of Nagrig to get to and from football training in Cairo.

While the list has historically been dominated by American athletes in the NBA and NFL, three footballers are listed in the top three: Barcelona’s Argentinian wizard, Lionel Messi ($127 million) is at number one, ahead of long-time rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, of Juventus and Portugal ($109 million, while Brazil and PSG forward, Neymar, sits at number three ($105 million).
