The Egyptian Armed Forces has dispatched its Mistral helicopter carrier to Libya to function as a field hospital, providing crucial support to the victims of the devastating Hurricane Daniel that recently struck the eastern region of the country.

Egyptian state agencies are closely monitoring the situation in Libya, with a focus on expediting the repatriation of deceased Egyptians and offering immediate medical attention to the injured. The Mistral carrier, along with an Egyptian navy ship already present in the waters of the Libyan city of Derna, is dedicated to recovering bodies of flood victims from the sea.

The Egyptian Armed Forces have been aiding rescue operations in Libya, which has been grappling with the aftermath. The death toll of the storm now stands at 11,300, with an additional 10,100 individuals still reported as missing.

According to Libyan authorities, the hurricane caused significant damage in Derna, resulting in the destruction of 6,142 buildings, with an additional 1,500 structures sustaining damage. The flooded area in Derna alone spans an estimated six square kilometres.
